Why Serbia has so many spa traditions
Mineral and thermal waters emerge in different parts of the country, often alongside favourable landscapes and historic park settlements. No two spas share an identical source, composition or visitor experience. Some are strong medical-rehabilitation centres, others are better known for relaxation and a park holiday.
Water and clinical care
Mineral water, sulphurous sources, peloid and climate can form part of a medical programme when a licensed institution considers them appropriate. Rheumatology, rehabilitation, cardiovascular, respiratory and metabolic programmes appear across the Serbian spa network, but indications differ by provider and individual. A spa destination is never a prescription.
Wellness and a holiday
A traveller may want thermal pools, a comfortable hotel, walks and day trips without entering a treatment programme. Compare actual pool access, family or sports facilities, accommodation and the surrounding nature. A spring’s history does not guarantee that every listed bath or hotel is operating today.
Build a realistic stay
Treat a clinical appointment and a wellness package as different products. Check access and admission with the institution, then plan transfers, companion activities and a quieter pace around the actual schedule.

Medical rehabilitation is organised by a healthcare institution following an assessment. Wellness stays are recreational. RFZO arrangements depend on eligibility and a formal referral; BLH helps with travel planning, not medical decisions.
