Kopaonik

Kopaonik

Kopaonik brings together Serbia’s largest ski centre and a protected high-mountain landscape. Ski slopes, summer trails and lively resort areas make it a destination for much more than a quick viewpoint stop.

Pančićev vrh reaches 2,017 metres above sea level. The national park protects mountain forests, open highland habitats and trails; the built resort is only one part of the wider massif.

In winter choose between beginner areas, linked alpine runs, ski schools and selected night-skiing slopes. In summer explore national-park walks, panoramic lifts and organised outdoor activities, checking each seasonal programme before travel.

IN DEPTH

Planning Kopaonik

Explore activities, seasons and the practical choices that shape a visit.

Winter on the mountain

Kopaonik is Serbia’s largest ski centre. The operator lists more than 64 km of prepared ski runs and connecting routes for alpine and Nordic skiing, with terrain for first-time skiers as well as more experienced visitors. Ski schools, rental services and beginner areas with moving carpets make a family trip possible without everyone skiing the same runs.

The ski network includes the Pančićev vrh, Karaman greben, Duboka and Gobelja sectors; night skiing is offered on selected floodlit runs when operating conditions permit. The resort also has snowmaking and a snow park. Check the live slope and lift report before choosing a particular hotel or committing to a ski itinerary.

How long does the ski season last?

The season is not a fixed promise: in 2025/26 the announced opening was 4 December 2025, and the operator reported the season ending on 13 April 2026. That is a useful example of roughly four winter months, but opening dates, the number of runs available and spring extensions change with weather and operations.

If skiing is the main reason for travel, choose dates after checking the operator’s live snow, slope and lift information. A stay near a lift matters more than a generic “Kopaonik” address when you are carrying equipment or travelling with children.

Summer beyond skiing

The national park offers marked walks through forests and highland habitats, including routes toward Jelovarnik, Metođe, Nebeske stolice, Samokovska reka and Jankove bare. Choose a route for your fitness and the weather; the park publishes walking maps and guided tour information.

When operating, the mountain resort offers panoramic chairlift rides, mountain biking and e-bikes, a rail toboggan, zip line, tubing and an adventure park. Activities and lifts follow their own summer calendar; confirm the actual programme for your dates.

Where to stay and how to plan

The central resort suits guests who want lifts, ski schools and restaurants within easy reach; nearby apartment areas may suit longer self-catering stays. Brzeće offers a lower-altitude base linked to the ski area by gondola when it operates. Compare distance to the lift, parking, heating, cancellation terms and winter-road access before booking.

A winter visit can combine morning skiing, an afternoon walk and local dining. In warmer months, allow a full day for one park trail and a second activity instead of treating the protected mountain as only a quick photo stop.
