Tisa
The Tisa is a major tributary of the Danube crossing the Vojvodina plain.
Riverside settlements and lowland scenery give it a different pace from mountain rivers.
Explore riverfronts and choose authorised boating activities where available.
Tisa Beyond the View
Understand the place and choose the part that fits your journey.
Course and landscape
The Tisa crosses the lowlands of Vojvodina before meeting the Danube near Titel. The international Danube commission describes the entire 966 km river as the Danube’s longest tributary. Its calm, wide floodplain character differs from Serbia’s mountain rivers.
History, wildlife and culture
River towns, agriculture, seasonal water levels and wetlands all belong to the Tisa’s identity. Its basin spans five countries, so the Serbian stretch is part of a much wider ecological and cultural landscape.
Ways to explore
Explore a selected riverside town, cycling path or licensed boating activity; choose the exact launch and shore. Birdwatching and lowland nature visits depend on site access and protection rules.
Where to base your visit
Base yourself in a particular settlement rather than saying only “on the Tisa”; distances between scenic reaches are substantial, and public transport to river access may be limited.
