Explore a city riverfront or arrange a regulated boat excursion.
Dunav Beyond the View
Understand the place and choose the part that fits your journey.
Course and landscape
The Danube runs roughly 2,857 km from Germany toward the Black Sea; the international river commission calls it Europe’s second-longest river after the Volga. About 588 km pass through or along Serbia. The Serbian course is not one uniform river landscape: it crosses the plains, reaches Belgrade at the Sava confluence and narrows dramatically at Đerdap.
History, wildlife and culture
It has served as a transport route and border for centuries. In Serbia, Petrovaradin, Belgrade, Smederevo and Golubac show how strategic river crossings shaped fortresses and towns. The Đerdap area adds archaeology, nature and the history of a great European gorge.
Ways to explore
Choose an urban riverside walk in Novi Sad or Belgrade, a fortress journey toward Golubac, or a multi-day cycling route on the Serbian EuroVelo 6 section. Boat departures, marinas, protected-area access and cycling surfaces vary by locality; arrange a specific stretch, not an abstract trip along the whole Danube.
Where to base your visit
Select your base by the stretch you want to explore: Belgrade for an urban stay, Novi Sad for Vojvodina, Smederevo or Golubac for the eastern river and Đerdap. A cruise or boat trip needs its own boarding and return logistics.
