The Uvac cuts through the highlands of southwestern Serbia, where reservoirs and pronounced river bends create one of the country’s most recognisable landscapes. Much of the visitor experience is within a protected reserve, not a free-access amusement area.
History, wildlife and culture
The reserve is especially important for the griffon vulture; its official manager reports the largest nesting colony of this species in Serbia. Caverns and high viewpoints add geological and ecological interest.
Ways to explore
Choose an approved viewpoint or organised boat excursion, with time to approach the correct departure point. Wildlife viewing is unpredictable and access rules protect nesting sites; check restrictions and any guide requirements.
Where to base your visit
Zlatar and Nova Varoš are practical regional bases, while Sjenica fits other approaches. Reserve arrival times and road conditions matter more than the map distance to the meanders.
